Resourcing Plan and Needs

Church planting stories come in all shapes and sizes but the goal is always to build a self-sustaining community that can serve and spiritually resource a city for years to come.

In late 2023, the GRACE/SF project received a seed grant from the Center for Church Innovation to begin taking steps to plant a new community in San Francisco. Smaller “friends and family”contributions were also given to help launch initial gatherings and start-up expenses.

The next challenge will be to raise a sufficient start-up fund to allow Grace/SF to move toward public worship and expanded events (including hiring musicians and contracting on venues, etc). In late 2024, the CCI generously awarded GRACE/SF a $150K “growth grant” to help fund the public launch phase of this ministry.

Long term, while achieving sustainability can take several shapes, in its next phase Grace/SF seeks to grow a contemplative community and network that can support a small full-time staff including a full-time minister and three part-time staff overseeing liturgy and art, children’s formation resources, web/media production and Bay Area retreats and network formation. Grace/SF seeks to be a unique contemplative community and network that can resource San Francisco in a new form of contemplative and integrative Christianity.
